Jonathan's FEBRUARY update newsletter
Greetings from the Transkei.
Well the Lord has got us and our belongings through the Christmas season safely. We only had some problems one night; some guys came around and broke the lock trying to get into our chicken house. They then went into the garden and tried to get some carrots but the ground was too hard and the tops of the carrots just broke off, so they went home unsuccessful.
Many of you have been asking me if "I have got a horse yet?" Well God didn't give me just one but has blessed me with two! He has given a pregnant mare (Nesi) and her little four month colt. I was at the point of settling with the first horse I found but God knew exactly what I was looking for and he provided it.
I am in the middle of training Nesi right now, it was a bit of a job getting her to go on the lung line but she's now doing extremely well. I hope to be riding her before too long. Then I can start going out with Lukas early in the mornings to give injections to the livestock of the men in the surrounding community. This will give me more contact with the men and hopefully help me learn the language better.
We have been able to finish up some of the projects around here but still have two of the major ones to complete; the large cement Rondoval which needs parging and paint, and the Flat (shop) that needs paint trim. But they are well on their way.
Gene and Lucas are almost done reading through the material for the plastic pastors. We should soon be starting to record now that we have all the equipment we need. You can continue to pray for the men here that they will continue to open up to the Gospel.
When I was preparing to leave for SA my plan was to stay for a full year but Gene and Janice are now planning to leave the end of May, when their visa expires. So now I am faced with some decision. Please pray for the Holy Spirits guiding as I search out His will for my remaining time here. What ever happens I am open to what God has for me here in Africa.
Praise God for:
- Providing the perfect horse that fits all my needs.
- Getting us through the holiday season safely.
- The moisture we NEED for the garden.
Pray for:
- Our families back home as (I'm sure) they are missing me(-:
- As we start recording and working with the Plastic Pastors.
- The engine on our little Bakkie (truck) quit working and we now need to repair it seeing it is borrowed.
- Me, as I am listening to the Lord as to what I should do with my remaining time here.
I am hoping to have some new pictures on my Xanga site within the week.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
God Bless
Jonathan Eby

PERSONAL UPDATES
February 5, 2007
Horses are all doing fine. I am doing a lot of training and can tell
that Nesi has had a lot of bad experiences in the past, so I'm trying
to overcome all that and get her to trust me.
I had the little colt leading beside me the other day.
I have been wanting to send some more pictures home as well as another
newsletter. I have them all ready to take to town. We were planing on
going tomorow to East London but the engine on the bukki (truck)
blew! Its going into the shop to get fixed today but we aren't sure
how to pay for it yet. Keeps us on our knees!
Otherwise, I may have to take a trip in by taxi some day but that's a all day
event so we'll see when it happens.
PRAYER REQUEST
A week ago Saturday our chief was murdered--shot six times. And they have no
idea who did it. They think that it was a payed job by a family
member, someone who would inherit being chief. So things have been a
little diferent around here. The funeral will be on my birthday...just in
case you're wondering what I'll be doing that day.
Since the death there has been a lot of witch craft in the area. In
the evenings we can see big fires on the neighboring hills. We can tell
that the enemy is tring to attack us through this time doing whatever
he can to distract us from working on the plastic pastors.
We have had quite a few attacts in the last week. The chief died, we
have had a couple chickens go missing in the last week, Dancer's hoof
got injured, the bukki quite working, both Gene and Jan have been quite
sick but are now geting over it, a freind gave us 30 chickens three
days ago (10 for us and 20 to sell for him) There is an animal around
here that is about the size of a cat with big fangs and claws and it
likes to drink blood of smaller animals. Last night it killed 29 of
the 30 chickens.
The enemy is doing all he can right now to discourage us in what we're
doing, so please pray for safety for us and our property and livestock.
HORESES ARE HOME!
Jan 25, 2007
Got the horses home safely without any problems!
The only thing is that I didn't get to go on the 10hr ride like I wanted to.
Instead we borrowed a flat trailer and paid a visit to a scrap metal pile. We
soon converted it into a horse trailer! We drove them as far as we
could, then walked them the last 2 hours.
Ya, so it feals sooooo good to finally have them here!
Her name is a little confusing but I'll give it a try.
I spell it in Xhosa (Nesi) and pronounce it in English (Ners) but with
the Xhosa acent (Ness).
No name for the colt...nothing seems to fit yet.
Yesterday I trimmed her hooves, which went extremely well seeing she has
never been trimmed before. Wasn't able to correct everything but next
time it should look like a new hoof.
Well thought you would like to know how it went.
I'll send pitctures next time I'm in town. No promises when that will
be...hopfully some time next mouth.

Guess what I bought?
That's right a HORSE!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, actually three--in a way!
Thursday morning we left for Nqmokway (1 1/2hrs away)
We left at 5am so we could get there while the men are still around.
Cheasmen came along to buy one as well, but money is a bit more of a
facter for him.
Ha. Let's just say after a 13hr day of driving on bumpy roads and cattle
trails, we found two places: one had five horses and the other 18. But
we only saw one small, pitiful mare. So we told them we would come
back the next morning at 7am to look them all over.
That meant we had to leave at 4am Friday morning.
I slept well that night, and it was only God that woke me up in time to go.
When we got there the place that had five only had three...none that we
were interested in.
The other place all cost more than Cheasmen wanted to pay but two
jumped out at me right away.
One wasn't for sale and the other was a 6yr old pregnant mare that had
a 4 month old colt, as well as a 1 1/2 year old filly that I wasn't
interested in.
While we were in the middle of making the deal for the mare and the her colt,
the seller asked if we wanted to trade a saddle for the filly, which Gene
jumped at the idea.
So we now have a holl family of horses.
Lucas is going to replace the sattle for Gene so the filly will be his
and the pregnant mare and her colt are mine.
The only problem now is how to get them home.
Finding a trailer is not easy or cheap, or I could ride her home which is
a 10-hour ride. Not to mention that I don't know the way or the
language. Ha.
I am praying that Cheasmen will buy a horse in the same area, then we
can ride back together.
The Lord will make a way.
We were planning on bringing them home in ten days but the guy that we
left them with called this morning and said that he senses that there
are plans being made to steal the horses!
So we are now planning on going to get them tues or wed trusting that
we can have a way to move them.
So please pray that we can find a way to get them all home and that
they will all be there when we get there.
I'll let you know what happens once I'm back.
Talk later
